Tron Theatre never fails to impress. The original building, around for centuries, now mixed award winning designs where old meets new.
The same can be said of the stage, where wild panto might be followed by high drama, professional and amateur plays, and just about everything in between.
We want to make sure that your evening at Tron Theatre goes with as much fizz and sizzle as the wonderful place offers. Sitting in the Merchant City, you have more options than you might know what to do with.
So we've helped by showing you here the best of the best. Best wishes for a fabulous night at Tron Theatre and Merchant City adventures...;-)
lively tron theatre pre-theatre with merchant city vibe...
Merchant City has a vibe and energy all its own. Lots of places for pre-theatre meals are simply bustin' at the seams - all love of life, food and great nights out.
In fact, Tron Victorian Bar (tel: +44 (0) 141 552 8587) happens to be one of them! The bar really is an original Victorian one, all shiny and ready to serve. The food comes in generous portions, with hints of modern continental meets Scottish.
And just feel the atmosphere. You're in the same building as the performance you're about to enjoy. There's electricity in the air, pre-show. Lap it up and have a blast (so to speak...).
Close to Tron Theatre sits the cute and cuddly Guy's /Browse/Restaurant/Guys(reveal best table deals?) . Unique decor mixes with a unique menu, making sure all diners have meals they'll remember for a long time. A firm local fave, this funky little place surely deserves its Merchant City status.
Maybe your evening at Tron Theatre is a Big Date. Or a Special Anniversary. So it's important to impress, and Merchant City serves up some of the most special, intimate meals in the city.
City Merchant /Browse/Restaurant/City_Merchant(reveal best table deals?) has been looking after diners since the 1980s. Cute and cosy, they are sure footed around Scottish cuisine here. With a focus on best Scottish fish and game, you're in for a mouth watering meal. And the wait staff look after diners without intrusion... leaving you free to talk with your date. (sigh).
Also worthy of a special meal as part of your evening out is Gandolfi Fish /Browse/Restaurant/Gandolfi_Fish(reveal best table deals?) . Taking on board the high standards set by its older sibling, Cafe Gandolfi, fab fish and an interesting mix of other dishes are served in an airy, light and relaxing dining room. Small wonder those in the foody know have taken this restaurant to their hearts.
Isn't it awesome when the excitement of 'theatre night' takes hold? Let the party carry on, courtesy of Merchant City...
For a feel of the excitement and energy on show nights, staying in Tron Theatre for a drink at Tron Bar might be just the ticket.
However, cross Argyle Street and step into Maggie Mays /Browse/Restaurant/Maggie_Mays(reveal best table deals?) for a grand old time. Its all going on here, with an events venue in the basement, a great bar, excellent pub food and big squashy leather armchairs and sofas!
Brutti Ma Buoni (tel: +44 (0) 141 552 0001) in Brunswick Hotel offers the best drinks and food to the style-conscious crowds, most nights of the week. And the staff are some of the most friendly and laid back in the Merchant City. Add to this a pavement terrace, and we have a recipe for real success. No wonder this is such a fave, happening spot. Enjoy.
The charm and status of Merchant City is matched by some of its oldest inhabitants. Treat these characters with the warmth and easy respect they richly deserve, and you'll have a glorious time...
Oozing an easy country charm, Babbity Bowster makes a great choice for a chat after the show. A real fire blazes in Winter, and the doors are open to the beer garden all year round. The owner (you can't miss the eye patch) will chat to anyone who stands still long enough. A lovely character, he looks after all those whiskies behind the bar with the care of a true whisky lover!
Another old Merchant City gent is Rab Ha's (tel: +44 (0) 141 572 0400) . All creaking, polished wood and a seriously well stocked bar, the character and gentle fun here has kept it a hidden local charmer for decades. Well done for tracking it done. Cheers.
If you're visiting Glasgow for your show at Tron Theatre, would you like to take in a nearby tourist attraction as well?
You're in the right place, as it happens. Gallery of Modern Art sits at the junction of Ingram Street and Queen Street. In a stunning building, the modern art on display can challenge and lead to discussion. And it plays host to travelling shows, so you never know what might be on display. Like all Glasgow museums, its free to enter. Great value for money, or what?...;-)
