 The Universal offers everyone a warm welcome into its cobbled nook; tucked behind the bustle of Sauchiehall Street. If you do find it you'll be mightily chuffed with yourself. This is a hidden gem of a bar that manages to be busy (against all odds?) every night of the week. Bar food here is superb. They do a fantastic range of gastro-pub dishes of the good old British school, like macaroni cheese, mince and tatties or bangers and mash, all wonderfully down-to-earth. Their cheesy garlic bread is a personal favourite to order up on arrival, whisked quickly to your table with the first drinks. There are plenty of things to zing your taste buds too, of course, many nodding to the sainted chilli or South American spice for inspiration. Whatever you choose, relax that you will have made the best choice (until your next visit). Regular music programme delights music lovers in the lounge bar upstairs.
